Vintage autos and their owners from times gone by

Who’s good at crosswords?

1937 fordTry as we may to bring you the most accurate old car information as possible, there are times when this just isn’t possible and we simply have to wing it. This is one of those instances.

I’ve stared and stared at the writing found on the back of this photo and I cannot, for the life of me, decipher the first word. Maybe you can. There are five words total here and the last four of them read: “… hair cut & new car.” The first word starts with a “B” and it ends with a “t”. So, what’s in the middle? Anyone? Before you answer, please note that there is likely no letter “i” (because she dots her i’s (see, “hair”) and I don’t believe I see an “a” either based on how she closes the top of that letter when she wrote out “car.” No “o”. There could be an “e” in there (see, “new”). All I can come up with is “Brut”. Brut is a thing today as I Googled it and found all kinds of listings, but was there a Brut haircut in the 30’s? Anyone?

The car is a 1937 Ford Sedan. And apparently it is a “new” one.
